The Chief Minister Punjab has issued the letter to the Managing Director Utility Store Corporation, Islamabad regarding participation in Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program 2023-24. I am writing to follow up on the Punjab Social Protection Authority’s previous request, dated 24th October 2022, for the Utility Stores Corporation’s participation in the recently launched Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program Punjab.
The Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program Punjab is a Provincial adaptation of the previously launched Federal Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program, which ran from 31st January 2022- 30th June 2022 under the Ehsaas umbrella. The USC’s stores across the country successfully and enthusiastically participated in this Federal program, with 2429 USC stores actively transacting, disbursing 128 Million Rs in subsidy within 5 months, conducting ~225,000 transactions. The Program also enabled the rapid digitization of USC stores, with a digitally enabled POS being used to conduct subsidy transactions. USC also earned 8% commission on each subsidy transaction.
In September 2022, the Punjab cabinet approved 100 Bn rupees for the Punjab version of the Rashan Riayat program to be launched. The program officially began on 8th December 2022, and to date, 50+ CSD stores and 8300+ Kiryana stores have been activated to participate in the program. So far, 4+ Bn in subsidy have been disbursed to 700,000+ deserving households across Punjab.
I would strongly urge the USC to also participate in the Punjab Ehsaas Rashan Riayat Program as it would enable many deserving families across Punjab to benefit from the targeted subsidy on essential commodities, at a time when inflation pressure is becoming unbearable for most citizens.
The entire technical infrastructure needed for USC to participate in the program already exists, and the integration of all USC stores across Punjab will require a single API link to the backend system.
