Iran hangs Swedish-Iranian dual national for “terrorism”: State media: Habib Farajollah Chaab was condemned to death over his job with a dissenter bunch claimed to have done a dangerous assault.

According to state media, Iran has executed a Swedish-Iranian dissident who was found guilty of leading an Arab separatist group that was accused of attacks, including a 2018 attack on a military parade that killed 25 people.

According to the Reuters news agency, Habib Farajollah Chaab was given the death penalty for being “corrupt on earth,” which is a crime punishable by death under Iran’s strict Islamic laws.

His execution was reported on Saturday by the state broadcaster IRIB.

“Capital punishment for Habib Chaab… nicknamed Habib Asyud, the head of Harakat al-Nidal fear based oppressor bunch… was executed today, Saturday morning,” the Iranian legal executive’s Mizan Online site revealed.

The Iranian-Swedish dissident’s death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court in March for alleged “terrorist” activities with the Arab separatist group Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz, which wants a separate state in the oil-rich Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran. He was found guilty of planning “numerous bombings and terrorist operations” and carrying them out.

Iran has accused its ethnic minorities, which include Arabs, Kurds, Azeris, and Baluch, of aligning with neighboring nations, resulting in tense relations.

Iran said in 2020 that its security powers captured Sweden-based Chaab in Turkey and took him to Tehran, without saying where or how he was caught.

Sweden had voiced worry over Chaab’s case.

Attaches with Iran have likewise soured over a Swedish court’s life-time jail sentence for a previous Iranian authority for contribution in the mass execution of political detainees in 1988 in the Islamic Republic.
