MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023 Full Winners List: ‘The Last of Us,’ ‘Scream VI’ Take Top Honors: Due to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America, the MTV Movie & TV Awards encountered a number of obstacles this year. While the awards show was scheduled to air live on Sunday, the network announced that it would instead air a pre-taped special because several attendees had pulled out.
In a statement, Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming, and events at Paramount Global and an executive producer of the MTV Movie & TV Awards, said, “As we carefully navigate how best to deliver the fan first awards’ show we envisioned, our team has worked so hard to create, we’re pivoting away from a live event that still enables us to produce a memorable night full of exclusive sneak peaks, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect, and countless moments
During the writers’ strike, a wild week of production changes for the MTV Movie & TV Awards resulted in a diverse group of stars receiving golden popcorn statuettes on Sunday.
The smash hit film “Top Gun: Maverick received the most nominations among scripted content alongside television shows “Stranger Things,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” and “Wednesday.” Shows like “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” and “Vanderpump Rules” dominated the unscripted category nominations. The Comic Genius Award went to Jennifer Coolidge, while the Best Musical Moment Award went to Purple Hearts for their performance of “Come Back Home.”
Drew Barrymore was originally scheduled to host the annual event, but she announced on Thursday that she will no longer be doing so in support of the writers’ strike. Even though some of Barrymore’s parts had already been recorded before the strike started, the ceremony continued without a formal host. Barrymore said in a statement that she would host the show again in 2024.
MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023 Full Winners List: ‘The Last of Us,’ ‘Scream VI’ Take Top Honors: Following reports that striking individuals from the Journalists Organization of America wanted to picket at the St Nick Monica Barker Shelter, where the occasion is being shot, chief maker Bruce Gillmer partook in a proclamation to CNN that the MTV Film and television Grants were “turning away from a live occasion” via circulating a pre-taped rendition of the function on Sunday all things being equal.

The majority of the telecast consisted of flashback clips from previous MTV Movie & TV Awards shows as well as pre-taped speeches from winners, which were a part of that pivot.
