2024 Genesis Electrified G80 review: Our expert’s take

2024 Genesis Electrified G80 review: Our expert’s take

Having just launched the electric version of its G80 luxury sedan for 2023, Genesis spent the last year focusing on expanding the new EV’s availability. Initially only available in a handful of states, as of this writing, it’s now on sale in 33. Genesis did, however, find time to also spec out a new entry-level model, the Advanced, which starts at $75,570 — $5,925 lower than the 2023 model’s base price (all prices include $1,195 destination charge). Also new for 2024, the Electrified G80 gets leather upholstery, a Wi-Fi hot spot and white brake calipers as standard equipment.

Powertrain Specs and Range

The Electrified G80’s powertrain is unchanged for the 2024 model year. It features two electric motors, giving it all-wheel drive and a combined 365 horsepower. The motors draw power from an 87.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack that the EPA says enables a range of 282 miles between charges.

With an onboard charger capable of accepting up to 350 kilowatts, the G80 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes, according to Genesis, which is quite quick. On a Level 2 charger, which buyers are likely to install at home, the Genesis Electrified G80 charges at a more sedate 10.9 kW, going from completely drained to fully topped off in 7 hours, 22 minutes.

A Full Suite of Safety Tech

As with the gas-powered G80 line, the Electrified G80 lists a comprehensive suite of safety technology among its standard equipment. The roster includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors and intervention, lane departure steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. The Prestige trim adds reverse automatic emergency braking and blind spot cameras that display a view down the sides of the car in the instrument cluster.

Pricing and Availability

The 2024 Genesis Electrified G80 is on sale now. Full line pricing (including $1,195 destination) is $75,570 for the Advanced trim and $80,320 for the Prestige.

The Advanced trim gets a power trunk with a kick sensor for hands-free operation, soft-close doors, and keyless entry and starting. Inside, it features matte-finish wood trim, leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8-inch screen in the instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch center touchscreen with navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging and a 21-speaker Lexicon audio system.

It’s fair to look at the Prestige trim’s additional equipment as stuff the Advanced buyer forgoes compared to 2023’s model. Either way, the list includes a synthetic suede headliner, Nappa leather seating, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, rear window shades, and a 360-degree camera system, as well as the aforementioned safety equipment.
