Given the increasing appeal of self-employment, a considerable number of individuals attempting online freelancing do not achieve success. Their lack of success often stems from overlooking fundamental attributes necessary for online work. When met with failure, some assert that freelancing holds no promise, but the reality is that impatience and a failure to await the opportune moment contribute to their downfall. I have been engaged in freelancing for nearly twenty years. You might be pondering, what role does English play in the realm of freelancing?  If you do not know English, you are unable to sell online, period.

The project on different freelance marketplaces is posted in English, the bid has to be placed in English and yet people do not pay attention to learn basic English, so they are able to sell their services.

Grammarly is a great widget that can be installed free on Google’s Chrome browser. It not only detects fundamental spelling errors but also provides suggestions for enhancing grammar. It is a great tool to use if you want to sound perfect in English.

2- Tone of your writing:

The tone of your writing carries significant weight. As a digital freelancer providing services online, you lack face-to-face interactions with clients. Consequently, when writing, meticulous word choice is crucial, and avoiding a passive tone is advisable to prevent confusion.

For instance, a straightforward sentence should be articulated with simplicity: “I’ve successfully tackled similar tasks before, and if given the opportunity, I will efficiently accomplish this assignment.”

If you present the same content in a passive tone, it kind of spoils up the meaning, i.e “similar work is done by me in the past. Give me a chance, I will complete the job, in an effective way”

Both reflect the same notion but the meaning could be translated in a different way. As a freelancer, mastering the art of effective writing is paramount. The tone of your pitch carries significant significance.

3- Solution to the client’s problem:

In the freelancing realm, we frequently neglect to focus on the specific problem highlighted by the client in their project description.Instead of telling the client, what are you excellent at and going at length in praising your work and previous client’s experience, it is important to address the problem first. Learning business development is important to succeed online.

If a client seeks a specific service or requires assistance in resolving an issue, make an effort to elucidate how you can address that problem effectively.

4- Portfolio:

A portfolio is your showcase of work that could fetch you business. Devoid of a portfolio, a client remains unable to assess your areas of expertise.

As a beginner, it is very important to invest in yourself. By working “free” initially for 3-4 projects, you can not only gain good experience but you will also build your portfolio.
