Wendy Williams Interview Blasting Nicole Murphy Goes Viral

Wendy Williams Seen for First Time in a Year Following Aphasia and Dementia Diagnoses

Fans of Wendy Williams, the former talk show host, finally have some answers about her whereabouts. Williams, 60, was recently seen in public for the first time since her private legal and medical struggles became public earlier this year.

Last week, a Newark, New Jersey business shared that Williams, who has been inactive on social media since 2022, stopped by their herbal supplement and holistic health store. Bolingo Balance owner Víctor Bowman posted photos with Williams and her 24-year-old son, Kevin Hunter Jr., on Instagram and Facebook, captioning his post, “Wendy Williams came to my store. Much love Queen.” Hunter responded on Instagram with a series of supportive emojis, indicating his wishes for his mother’s well-being: “🙏🏽📈🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽.”

This public appearance marks the first time Williams has been photographed since her team revealed in February that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Shortly after, her declining health was spotlighted in the Lifetime docuseries, Where Is Wendy Williams?

The series documents Williams’ struggle with her health, eventually leading to her admission into a treatment facility. It features her family discussing her dementia diagnosis and arguing for changes to her court-appointed guardianship established in 2022.

In the documentary, Hunter stated that his mother was diagnosed with “alcohol-induced” dementia, claiming, “They basically said that because she was drinking so much, it was starting to affect her headspace and her brain.” However, Williams’ team clarified in a February press release that her diagnosis was primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.

Frontotemporal dementia involves changes in thinking, behavior, movement, language, and emotions due to brain damage in the frontal and temporal lobes, although the exact cause is still unknown, according to Alzheimers.gov. Aphasia, meanwhile, impairs language expression and understanding and can result from brain damage due to stroke, head injury, brain tumor, or progressive neurological diseases, per the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

Williams’ family has repeatedly criticized the court’s decision to appoint a guardian to oversee her finances in 2022, arguing that a family member should be in charge instead. In February, the identity of Williams’ temporary guardian, attorney Sabrina Morrissey, became public when she filed a lawsuit against A+E Networks to stop the release of Where Is Wendy Williams? Morrissey contended that Williams was not capable of consenting to the documentary’s filming and accused the project of exploiting Williams’ medical condition.

Despite Morrissey’s objections, an appellate judge allowed Lifetime, owned by A&E Networks, to air the documentary on February 24 and 25, citing that blocking its release would violate the First Amendment. The legal case is ongoing.

Williams’ talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, faced numerous production delays and guest hosts in fall 2021 before its cancellation in 2022 due to Williams’ medical leave during her battle with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder. Since then, Williams has maintained a low profile.
